About us

Brain imaging and meditation research are among the most challenging and fascinating topics of contemporary science. Exciting possibilities exist to improve both the state of the art in meditation and our understanding of the operation of human brain and nervous system. These opportunities have motivated many researchers to use powerful computational methods to analyze images of brain structure and function, applying them to key questions in meditation and neuroscience. The purpose of the institute is to facilitate an integrated open structure for internationl meditation research work.

Aims of the Institute

The Higher Meditation Research Institute aims to:
  • increase interactions across existing and new research areas
  • publish high qauality research work in the areas of meditation and neuroscience
  • develop and strengthen the methodologies shared across research groups and themes
  • introduce new areas of research to meditation and neuroscience – for example, fMRI related studies
  • encourage the research students to be linked to the Institute
  • promote and support junior scientists
  • introduce joint studentships, across the Faculties
